Start with OpenAI Status
OpenAI Status is the official place to check incidents for ChatGPT and other OpenAI services. If there is a current incident, wait for recovery instead of trying strange login mirrors or unofficial downloads.
Compare with a local test
If status looks normal, open ChatGPT in a private window, another browser or another allowed network. If only one browser fails, cookies, cache or extensions are likely involved.
Watch for login-specific incidents
Sometimes the product loads but authentication fails. Login loops, SSO errors, OAuth problems and mobile app issues can be separate from general ChatGPT availability.
Avoid fake status pages
A fake status page may push downloads, ask for credentials or claim you must reconnect your account. Real status information should not ask for your ChatGPT password.
When alternatives help
If ChatGPT is down and you have non-sensitive work, you can use another AI assistant temporarily. Do not paste private account credentials or sensitive company data into random tools.
What to record
If you contact support, note the time, browser, device, error text, account type, login method and whether the issue appears in a private window.
